Liquidity risk is the risk that an investor or institution will not be able to buy or sell an asset quickly enough, at a sufficient size, or at a sufficiently close price to fair value to prevent or limit a financial loss. It encompasses both market liquidity risk (the risk of adverse price impact when trading) and funding liquidity risk (the risk of being unable to finance asset holdings or meet margin and redemption obligations).
